Candice McQueen: Nasty! Is a multi-award-winning, hyper-mythological cabaret and musical fable of an immortal Mister Sister named Candice.
“It’s like a love story about Candice who has a heart made of ice: if she falls in love her heart will melt and she will die. But when she eventually falls for a 90’s screen heartthrob and her heart starts to melt… the situation turns out rather unexpectedly” says writer and star of the show Rhys Morgan.
Set across time, and throughout the ages, Candice was already here when God created the Earth, she hung out with Mary in biblical Jerusalem, and River Phoenix lured her deep into the Hollywood maddened Los Angeles of the 1990’s!
With a spectacular live soundtrack featuring music by the Indigo Girls, Color Me Badd, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Alanis Morrisette, All Saints and Roxette – played live onstage by British rock wunderkind, guitarist Chris Booroff (Kids Can’t Fly).
“It’s impossible to peel your eyes off the charismatic, twinkly eyed Mister Sister with his commanding stage presence.” The West Australian
“Eternally strong stage presence, great comedic timing and an ability to draw you in to her bizarre world” Theatre Press
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Spanky was dining with Simon Cowell at Cipriani’s within the next six months” – Independent on Sunday (UK)
Spanky held a seven-year residency at London’s infamous Bistrotheque, has performed for three British Prime Ministers and had private bookings at the request of Elton John and Alexander McQueen.
Melbourne Cabaret Festival’s 2012 Spanky premiere was universally acclaimed by audiences, reviewers and peers, with a Herald Sun reviewer uncharacteristically dropping an f-bomb on twitter, exclaiming – “that was f*cked up & brilliant & funny & beautiful”.
