THE GIN MILL SOCIAL POP-UP
SATURDAY 16th SEPTEMBER
at The Castlereagh Boutique Hotel
A lavish 1920’s dinner party with live music,
swing dancing, pop up performances and an extravagant menu!
“A night of glamour, food, drinks and entertainment…. Don’t forget your dancing shoes.” – Broadsheet
Party like it’s 1929 at the Gin Mill Social… a night where you will feast, dance and play.
Sydney loves a pop-up, and the glamorous speakeasy event will take over the top floor of the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel at Cellos Grand Dining Room, a heritage-listed jewel that has been beautifully restored to its Art Deco glory. This will be your playground for the evening.
Enjoy a 4 course menu with food inspired by hotel banquets of the era. Music is loud and lively, and pop-up performances punctuate the night, starting with the authentic twenties jazz sounds of the Greg Poppleton Trio. Then dance the night away with the Jordan C Thomas Quartet and their jump jive, beat swing vibe, mixing classic hits with contemporary cool.
More than a dinner party, this is the perfect way to give Gatsby a run for his money!
“It’s like gold-class on steroids” – weekendnotes
Dress code: guys in ties, girls in pearls.
Feast, dance and play!
GIN MILL (noun) – 1920s slang for an establishment where hard liquor is sold. Tavern consisting of a building with a bar and public rooms. A room or establishment where drinks and meals are served.
SOCIAL (adj) – A party of people assembled to promote sociability and communal activity. A group of people gathered together for pleasure.
HISTORY – A speakeasy was an establishment that illegally sold alcoholic beverages in an age of Prohibition. These establishments came into prominence in the United States during 1920s. During this time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation (bootlegging) of alcoholic beverages were illegal. Speakeasies were so called because of the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or even inside it, so as not to alert the police.
